Testimonials

Just a brief note to say how delighted I am with the Melanie (9.6 sqm) Log Cabin I bought from you. Your service and price were superb and Greg and Craig came at 9am on Tuesday and worked right through until 8pm to build it.

They did an excellent job and did not stop all day. Greg advised that I should paint the door and windows a different colour as otherwise the green painted log cabin would be ‘lost’ in the garden and I took their advice. I used two different colours of Butinox No. 3 and the result is absolutely incredible. Many thanks once again. One hugely satisfied customer.

The delivery lorry arrived about eleven o’clock and the driver duly unloaded two very large packages. At eleven thirty my neighbour and I began to investigate these well protected packages.

Just after three o’clock that afternoon, two self satisfied men were enjoying a well deserved beverage whilst admiring the 4.5 by 3.5 meter cabin which was now completed up to roof purling level.

The construction of the cabin was so logical and easy, just like assembling ‘Lego blocks’ only heavier.

We absolutely love our Summer House – we can seat 16 people inside it, it stays warm long after the sun has gone down and it is particularly special as we run a B&B, so we can escape into it, invite all our friends to parties in it and now, we have installed electricity so can have lighting, heat and music as and when needed. It also provides a really big area to store all our garden furniture during the winter months.

We would absolutely recommend you to anyone considering buying one. Many thanks.

Frequently Asked Questions: Wooden Carports

What are the benefits of a wooden carport?

A wooden carport offers a natural, timeless aesthetic that complements various home styles. It’s eco-friendly, durable, and cost-effective, with proper treatments ensuring resistance to rot and weather damage.

Wooden carports are versatile, providing vehicle protection, extra storage space, or outdoor gathering spaces. They’re easy to install, customizable in design and size, and can increase property value by adding functionality and curb appeal.

If you prefer an enclosed space, we also have a stunning collection of wooden garages.

Do I need planning permission for a wooden carport?

You may not need planning permission if the new carport is under 30m², open on at least two sides, and not built in front of your home. This often qualifies as permitted development. However, rules differ slightly across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and local planning constraints (like conservation areas or listed buildings) vary depending on your location and property type.

In most cases, small detached carports are also exempt from building regulations approval, but this can change if the structure is enclosed, attached to your home, or involves electrical work.

To ensure compliance, always check with your Local Planning Authority and Building Control department before starting your project.

How durable is a wooden carport?

Palmako’s wooden carports are crafted from Nordic spruce using traditional jointing techniques and built by experienced carpenters. These methods ensure long-term strength and weather resistance.

With proper maintenance, these structures can last for many years, providing a spacious and sturdy solution to keep your vehicle safe from the elements.. Palmako’s wooden carports are designed for easy assembly, offering an ideal solution for homeowners seeking a durable, quality structure to keep cars safe and secure.

Do wooden carports require a lot of maintenance?

Maintenance is simple and involves periodic treatment of the timber with a preservative to prevent weathering and fungal decay. Adding a fresh coat of paint or stain every few years helps maintain the wooden carport’s appearance, natural look, and durable quality. This regular upkeep ensures your wooden carport kit remains a sturdy and long-lasting addition to your driveway or property, offering protection for your cars and vehicles for many years.

What is the best wood to build a carport with?

When choosing the best wood for a wooden carport, it’s important to consider durability, structural integrity, and environmental impact. Palmako uses sustainably sourced timber, primarily Nordic spruce, which is known for its strength and weather resistance. Pressure-treated timber protects against fungal decay, rain, and snow, ensuring long-term performance in outdoor conditions.

All timber components are inspected by qualified timber graders as part of our precision manufacturing process. This ensures a product of exceptional quality, built to last and responsibly produced.

Do you make bespoke wooden carports?

Yes, Palmako offers a bespoke garden building design service, including custom wooden carports. Provide a rough floor plan and specifications, such as size, number of doors and windows, and other details, to receive a free, no-obligation quote tailored to your needs. How much does a wooden carport cost?

The cost of a wooden carport from Palmako typically ranges from around £2,190 to over £9,000, depending on the size, design, and whether it includes extras like an integrated shed or enclosed garage with a garage door.

For example, compact single bay carports start at approximately £2,190, offering an affordable solution for everyday vehicle protection. Larger double carports with additional storage or hybrid garage combinations can exceed £7,000. Models with included roof shingles, custom paint finishes, or structural upgrades (like thicker timber or added walls) may be priced higher.

Can I buy a carport that also has a built-in garage space?

Yes. Several Palmako models combine an open carport with an enclosed garage section, complete with a secure garage door for added protection and storage. These hybrid designs are ideal if you want both an open shelter for daily parking and a lockable space for gardening tools, bikes, or a second vehicle.
