Insulated Garden Rooms

Testimonials

Just a brief note to say how delighted I am with the Melanie (9.6 sqm) Log Cabin I bought from you. Your service and price were superb and Greg and Craig came at 9am on Tuesday and worked right through until 8pm to build it.

They did an excellent job and did not stop all day. Greg advised that I should paint the door and windows a different colour as otherwise the green painted log cabin would be ‘lost’ in the garden and I took their advice. I used two different colours of Butinox No. 3 and the result is absolutely incredible. Many thanks once again. One hugely satisfied customer.

The delivery lorry arrived about eleven o’clock and the driver duly unloaded two very large packages. At eleven thirty my neighbour and I began to investigate these well protected packages.

Just after three o’clock that afternoon, two self satisfied men were enjoying a well deserved beverage whilst admiring the 4.5 by 3.5 meter cabin which was now completed up to roof purling level.

The construction of the cabin was so logical and easy, just like assembling ‘Lego blocks’ only heavier.

We absolutely love our Summer House – we can seat 16 people inside it, it stays warm long after the sun has gone down and it is particularly special as we run a B&B, so we can escape into it, invite all our friends to parties in it and now, we have installed electricity so can have lighting, heat and music as and when needed. It also provides a really big area to store all our garden furniture during the winter months.

We would absolutely recommend you to anyone considering buying one. Many thanks.

Frequently Asked Questions: Insulated Garden Rooms

What makes Palmako's insulated garden rooms unique?

Palmako's garden rooms are crafted using high-quality Nordic spruce wood, which is naturally insulating. They feature insulated doors and fully double-glazed windows, offering excellent thermal performance and durability.

Are Palmako garden rooms fully insulated upon delivery?

No, Palmako garden rooms are designed to support full insulation but do not include insulation materials in the kit. Purchasers are responsible for selecting and installing additional insulation to meet their needs, whether for a hobby room, home office space, or other uses.

For guidance, you can always contact our customer service team for recommendations on insulation materials.

How do double-glazed windows and insulated doors enhance the performance of Palmako's garden rooms?

Double-glazed windows and insulated doors are key to the thermal efficiency. Here’s how they work:

- Double-Glazed Windows: These consist of two panes of glass separated by a sealed gap filled with air or inert gas, such as argon. This design reduces heat transfer by trapping a layer of insulation between the panes, minimizing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. Double glazing also reduces condensation, which helps maintain a comfortable interior environment.

- Insulated Doors: These doors are constructed with materials or layers that provide low thermal conductivity, preventing heat from escaping or entering through the door. They also feature high-quality seals to eliminate drafts and maintain consistent indoor temperatures.

Together, these features make Palmako’s premium garden rooms ideal for year-round use as insulated garden offices, art studios, or versatile living spaces.

Do Palmako’s garden rooms require planning permission?

In most cases, Palmako’s garden rooms and log cabins are considered permitted development, meaning they do not require planning permission if they comply with specific regulations:
- The building must not take up more than 50% of your garden.
- It must be ancillary to the main house.
- The eaves height must not exceed 2.5m, and the total height must not exceed 4m for apex roofs or 3m for other roof types.
- If the building is within 2 metres of your boundary, the total height must not exceed 2.5m.

You will likely need planning permission if you wish to place the building in your front garden or if your property is in a National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty, or a Conservation Area.

What type of wood and log thickness are used in Palmako garden buildings?

Palmako garden buildings are made from kiln-dried, sustainably sourced, slow-grown Nordic spruce, a timber known for its superb strength and durability. Grown in cold climates, this wood is resilient, making it ideal for a multipurpose garden building.

When choosing a log thickness, consider how and when you plan to use your garden space:

18mm–28mm: Suitable for sheds, workshops, or summer houses used exclusively in the summer.

34mm: Ideal for spring, summer, and autumn buildings.

44mm or 70mm: Perfect for all-year-round use. Combined with double glazing, these thicker walls ensure excellent insulation and comfort in any season.
