Testimonials

Just a brief note to say how delighted I am with the Melanie (9.6 sqm) Log Cabin I bought from you. Your service and price were superb and Greg and Craig came at 9am on Tuesday and worked right through until 8pm to build it.

They did an excellent job and did not stop all day. Greg advised that I should paint the door and windows a different colour as otherwise the green painted log cabin would be ‘lost’ in the garden and I took their advice. I used two different colours of Butinox No. 3 and the result is absolutely incredible. Many thanks once again. One hugely satisfied customer.

The delivery lorry arrived about eleven o’clock and the driver duly unloaded two very large packages. At eleven thirty my neighbour and I began to investigate these well protected packages.

Just after three o’clock that afternoon, two self satisfied men were enjoying a well deserved beverage whilst admiring the 4.5 by 3.5 meter cabin which was now completed up to roof purling level.

The construction of the cabin was so logical and easy, just like assembling ‘Lego blocks’ only heavier.

We absolutely love our Summer House – we can seat 16 people inside it, it stays warm long after the sun has gone down and it is particularly special as we run a B&B, so we can escape into it, invite all our friends to parties in it and now, we have installed electricity so can have lighting, heat and music as and when needed. It also provides a really big area to store all our garden furniture during the winter months.

We would absolutely recommend you to anyone considering buying one. Many thanks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of a glass greenhouse?

Glass greenhouses let in high levels of natural sunlight, creating bright conditions that support healthy plant growth and strong crop development. They help cover plants from wind, rain, frost, and pests while extending the growing season well beyond outdoor conditions, including through winter.

Glass also provides clear visibility and consistent light transmission, ideal for starting seedlings, growing vegetables, nurturing delicate plants in a controlled location and keeping you close to nature.

What are Palmako glass greenhouses made from?

Palmako glass greenhouses are made from high-quality Nordic spruce, a slow-grown timber known for its strength, stability, and natural insulating properties.

Compared to lighter softwoods often used in lower-cost greenhouses, Nordic spruce has a denser grain that helps reduce warping, splitting, and movement over time. This means the structure stays more solid and reliable year after year.

The wooden frames also insulate better than metal, helping to keep temperatures more stable inside the greenhouse and creating a healthier environment for plants. With correct treatment and regular maintenance, a timber greenhouse frame can last for many years, often decades. Alongside its practical benefits, timber wood gives Palmako greenhouses a warm, natural look that suits both modern and traditional gardens.

For full specifications, including exact measurements and price, customers can refer to the individual product pages, where detailed dimensions and technical information are provided for each model.

Why is toughened glass used in Palmako greenhouses?

Palmako greenhouses use toughened safety glass as standard, which is much stronger and more impact-resistant than the standard or horticultural glass often found in entry-level greenhouses.

In the unlikely event that toughened glass breaks, the glass will shatter into small, blunt pieces rather than sharp shards, making it safer around families and pets. It also offers clear visibility and long-lasting performance, helping to keep your greenhouse bright and inviting.

These panels are designed to cope with typical UK weather, including wind, rain, temperature changes, and common hail showers. While no glass is completely unbreakable, this type of glazing offers a far higher level of strength and reliability than standard options.

Making sure your greenhouse is installed on a solid, level base and avoiding hard impacts will further reduce risk. With proper assembly and normal garden use, the glass should give many years of dependable service.

How long will a Palmako glass greenhouse last?

With correct installation and routine maintenance, a Palmako glass greenhouse can last for many decades.

The high-quality Nordic spruce timber frame is designed for long-term outdoor use, while toughened safety glass offers excellent durability against everyday weather conditions. Choosing a painted or pressure-treated finish and carrying out basic upkeep over time will significantly extend the lifespan of the structure.

What maintenance is required for a Palmako glass greenhouse?

Glass panels should typically be cleaned at least once or twice per year in the UK, ideally in spring and autumn. This removes algae, dirt, and debris that can reduce light transmission. A mild detergent and a soft cloth or sponge are usually sufficient.

Most greenhouse models are supplied factory-painted or pressure-treated, which provides initial protection against moisture and decay. However, timber is a natural material and will still require maintenance over time, particularly in more exposed environments such as coastal areas:

  • Painted models: Inspect annually and expect to recoat approximately every 3-5 years, depending on exposure.
  • Pressure-treated models: May benefit from an additional protective top coat after a few years for enhanced longevity and appearance.

It’s also recommended to check fixings annually, ensure good drainage around the base, and keep vegetation from resting against the timber. With routine maintenance, a timber greenhouse can remain strong and attractive for decades.

Should I choose a painted or pressure-treated greenhouse?

Both painted and pressure-treated Palmako greenhouses offer excellent protection, and the best choice depends on whether you prioritise appearance or minimal upfront maintenance.

Painted greenhouses come with a factory-applied exterior coating that provides a clean, modern finish and strong surface protection from day one. This option is ideal if you want a specific colour look with minimal initial work. Painted models will typically need repainting every few years to maintain their appearance and protection.

Pressure-treated greenhouses are treated deep within the timber to protect against rot, decay, and insect attack. This option focuses more on long-term durability and can be a good choice if you plan to apply your own topcoat colour later or prefer a more natural timber appearance.

Both options deliver excellent longevity when properly maintained, so the choice mainly comes down to the finish you prefer and how you plan to care for the timber over time.

What type of base is required for a Palmako greenhouse?

A Palmako greenhouse must be installed on a solid, level, and stable base to ensure long-term structural stability and proper door and window alignment.

The most commonly recommended base options in the UK are:

  • Concrete slab – The most durable and permanent solution.
  • Paving slabs laid on a compacted hardcore base.
  • Timber frame base (pressure-treated) on suitable ground preparation.

The base should match or slightly exceed the footprint dimensions of the greenhouse and be completely level before installation begins. Installing the greenhouse at ground level on a well-prepared base with ample space around the structure helps reduce stress on the frame and glazing over time.

Good drainage around the structure is also important to prevent standing water and excess moisture near the timber.

Ensuring the correct base is in place before delivery will make installation smoother and help maximise the lifespan of your greenhouse.

Do greenhouses require planning permission?

In many cases, a greenhouse will be classed as a garden outbuilding and may not require planning permission, provided it complies with permitted development rules.

Permitted development typically applies when the structure is for incidental domestic use, sits within your property boundary, and stays within specific height and size limits. For example, if positioned within 2 metres of a boundary, the maximum overall height is usually 2.5 metres.

However, planning rules can vary between local authorities and across the UK. Additional restrictions may apply if your property is listed, located in a conservation area, or subject to an Article 4 direction.

If you are unsure, it is always advisable to check with your local planning authority before purchasing.

Are Palmako greenhouses designed for DIY assembly?

Yes. Each greenhouse is supplied as a flat-pack kit with detailed assembly instructions, allowing it to be easily assembled through straightforward DIY installation. Professional installation is also available as an optional extra.

Do glass greenhouses get too hot in summer?

Glass greenhouses can warm up in hot weather, just like any greenhouse. Palmako glass greenhouses include opening windows and roof vents to help release excess heat, improve air circulation, and reduce direct heat build-up.

Many gardeners also choose to add shading or extra vents to increase airflow during very warm periods.

How are Palmako glass greenhouses delivered?

Palmako glass greenhouses are delivered as flat-pack kits, securely packaged for safe transport and supplied directly from the manufacturer.

Palmako offers free delivery to mainland UK on all glass greenhouses. Product lead time can vary depending on the model and availability, and customers will be contacted in advance to arrange a suitable delivery date.

It’s recommended to ensure easy access to the delivery location on the day, as deliveries are typically made by large vehicles and offloaded at the kerbside.

Should I choose an aluminium greenhouse or a timber greenhouse?

Aluminium greenhouses are lightweight, rust-resistant, and slightly lower maintenance.

Palmako’s timber greenhouses are built from high-quality Nordic spruce, a naturally strong and insulating material that helps create a more stable growing environment. Timber frames also offer a warmer, more natural look that blends easily into most gardens.

While timber greenhouses require some periodic maintenance, they reward this with excellent longevity and a solid, stylish feel as opposed to aluminum.
