Wooden Garages

A wooden garage is a practical and attractive alternative to brick or metal garages, providing secure vehicle storage while complementing your property's style. Whether you need space for one or two cars, a workshop, or additional garden storage, timber garages offer durability, natural insulation, and flexible designs that can be adapted to your needs.

Palmako’s wooden garages are manufactured from premium slow-grown Nordic spruce, known for its extraordinary durability in the UK's demanding weather conditions. Precision-cut interlocking tongue-and-groove logs create a strong, stable structure while helping to protect against the elements.

Each garage is supplied as a complete DIY kit, with optional professional installation for added convenience. Palmako garages combine quality craftsmanship with outstanding value. Choose from single- and double-garage models with canopies, in traditional or contemporary designs, all backed by a five-year warranty and free mainland UK delivery.

Testimonials

Just a brief note to say how delighted I am with the Melanie (9.6 sqm) Log Cabin I bought from you. Your service and price were superb and Greg and Craig came at 9am on Tuesday and worked right through until 8pm to build it.

They did an excellent job and did not stop all day. Greg advised that I should paint the door and windows a different colour as otherwise the green painted log cabin would be ‘lost’ in the garden and I took their advice. I used two different colours of Butinox No. 3 and the result is absolutely incredible. Many thanks once again. One hugely satisfied customer.

The delivery lorry arrived about eleven o’clock and the driver duly unloaded two very large packages. At eleven thirty my neighbour and I began to investigate these well protected packages.

Just after three o’clock that afternoon, two self satisfied men were enjoying a well deserved beverage whilst admiring the 4.5 by 3.5 meter cabin which was now completed up to roof purling level.

The construction of the cabin was so logical and easy, just like assembling ‘Lego blocks’ only heavier.

We absolutely love our Summer House – we can seat 16 people inside it, it stays warm long after the sun has gone down and it is particularly special as we run a B&B, so we can escape into it, invite all our friends to parties in it and now, we have installed electricity so can have lighting, heat and music as and when needed. It also provides a really big area to store all our garden furniture during the winter months.

We would absolutely recommend you to anyone considering buying one. Many thanks.

What Sets Palmako Wooden Garages Apart?

Palmako combines premium Nordic spruce, sustainable manufacturing, and decades of timber-building expertise to create wood garages built for lasting performance. Here are a few reasons homeowners choose Palmako.

1. Sustainable and High-Quality Timber: Our wooden garages are made from premium Nordic spruce sourced from sustainably managed forests in Estonia. This timber is naturally denser and more durable due to the long, cold Baltic winters, ensuring your garage stands the test of time.

2. Eco-Friendly Manufacturing: Palmako is committed to minimizing its environmental footprint. We use solar power in our production process and recycle waste timber into wood pellets, embracing a zero-waste philosophy. Our sustainable practices ensure that you’re making an eco-conscious investment.

3. Aesthetic Appeal: Palmako garages offer a stylish and timeless look that complements your garden and home. Our wooden structures are not only functional but also add an elegant and natural aesthetic to your outdoor space.

4. Buy Direct from the Manufacturer: Palmako designs and manufactures its own timber buildings in Estonia, giving you direct access to high-quality craftsmanship, competitive pricing, and decades of manufacturing expertise.

5. Commitment to Transparency: Palmako is part of the Lemeks Group, a company that prides itself on transparent timber sourcing. We track where our timber comes from to ensure it meets strict sustainability standards, helping preserve forests for future generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose a wooden garage?

Wooden garages combine the strength and security you need with a warmer, more natural appearance than metal alternatives. Compared with brick garages, they're typically more affordable to build, quicker to install, and easier to modify, while providing natural insulation and a versatile space that can evolve with your needs.

How long will a wooden garage last?

With proper care and maintenance, high quality wooden garages can last for decades. Palmako’s garage kits use premium Nordic spruce sourced from sustainably managed forests, which is dense, durable, and long-lasting. Regular treatment and upkeep will help ensure a long lifespan.

Are wooden garages any good?

1. Strength and Longevity:

Modern wooden garages, especially those made from Nordic spruce, are highly durable. When properly treated and maintained, they can last for decades, standing up well to the UK's variable weather. Timber naturally offers strong load-bearing capacity, making it ideal for both vehicles and storage.

2. Natural Insulation:

Wood is a natural insulator, helping to maintain more stable internal temperatures than metal garages. This can be beneficial if you're storing tools or equipment or using the garage as a workspace.

3. Customisation and Aesthetics:

Timber garages blend seamlessly with traditional and modern properties alike. Many models offer options for custom features, such as different roof styles, door types, window layouts, and timber thicknesses. This allows homeowners to match the structure to the surrounding architecture and tailor the garage to their exact needs. You can also add additional insulation, such as double-glazed windows and doors.

4. Environmentally Friendly:

When sourced from responsibly managed forests, wood is a renewable, eco-friendly building material. It has a lower carbon footprint compared to concrete or steel, and it's biodegradable at the end of its life cycle.

5. Ease of Assembly and Planning Permission:

Most wooden garage kits are designed for DIY-friendly assembly and come with pre-cut, precision-milled components. In the UK, many timber garages are under 2.5m in height, which typically means they do not require planning permission, though it’s always best to check local regulations.

6. Cost-Effective Over Time:

While the upfront cost can vary depending on size and features, wooden garages often provide better long-term value. Timber structures are easier to insulate, repair, and adapt, making them a smart investment.

7. Versatile Use Cases:

Beyond vehicle storage, wooden garages are increasingly used as home workshops, garden storage, hobby rooms, extra storage space, or even home gyms. Their flexible design means they can evolve with your needs over time.

In short, if you're looking for a high-performance, attractive, and eco-conscious solution, a wooden garage is absolutely a good investment.

Do I need permission to build a wooden garage?

In many cases, you don't need planning permission to build a wooden garage, but it depends on several factors. Under UK permitted development rules, a garden garage can usually be built without permission if it meets the following conditions:

  • It's no more than 2.5 metres high if built within 2 metres of a boundary
  • It doesn’t take up more than 50% of the garden area
  • It’s for domestic use only, not for business or living accommodation
  • It’s not located in a conservation area or attached to a listed building

Many of our wooden garages are specifically designed to comply with these rules, making them a popular choice for hassle-free installation.

However, local regulations can vary, and exceptions may apply based on your location, property type, or intended use. It’s always best to check with your local planning authority before starting construction.

Can I build my wooden garage myself, or do I need help?

Palmako wooden garages are designed for straightforward assembly and are supplied as complete DIY kits. The precision-cut tongue-and-groove boards fit together accurately to create a strong, stable structure, making construction easier for those with basic DIY skills. We recommend that at least two people assemble the garage using standard tools such as a hammer, saw, measuring tape, and cordless drill.

If you'd prefer professional assistance, Palmako also offers an installation service and can help arrange a team to build your garage.

What delivery options are available for Palmako log garages?

Palmako offers free delivery to mainland UK on all wooden garages. A surcharge applies to certain remote postcodes, including parts of Scotland and the Channel Islands. Delivery times vary depending on the model, treatment option, and stock availability, with selected products available through the Express Delivery range.

Estimated delivery times are shown on each product page, and you'll be contacted to arrange a convenient delivery date once your order is confirmed.

Does Palmako offer any warranty on their timber garages?

Palmako offers a five-year warranty on all our timber garage kits. This warranty covers the replacement of any defective components but does not cover damage due to accidents, extreme weather conditions, or natural wood imperfections such as knots and splits. Palmako’s use of Nordic spruce ensures strength and durability, even in extreme conditions.

What garage options are available?

Palmako offers a variety of garage options to suit your needs:

Single Log Cabin Garages: Ideal for those who need a smaller, more compact space for one vehicle or as extra storage. These single garages are designed with simplicity and functionality in mind.

Double Garages: Perfect for households with two vehicles or additional storage requirements, giving you ample space to securely park cars, store gardening tools, or create a functional workshop.

Garages with Canopy: Some of our garage models come with a canopy, providing extra shelter for your vehicle or additional storage space for tools, bikes, or other outdoor equipment.

Pitched Roof Wooden Garages: If you prefer a traditional look, we offer garages with a pitched roof, which adds to the aesthetic appeal and provides extra space for attic storage or enhanced water runoff.

Flat Roof Garages: For a modern, sleek design, we offer garages with flat roofs, offering a minimalist style that blends seamlessly into your garden or home environment.

Is the garage door included?

Yes, either a wooden or a metal sectional door is included. However, the motor for the sectional is an optional extra.
