Testimonials

Just a brief note to say how delighted I am with the Melanie (9.6 sqm) Log Cabin I bought from you. Your service and price were superb and Greg and Craig came at 9am on Tuesday and worked right through until 8pm to build it.

They did an excellent job and did not stop all day. Greg advised that I should paint the door and windows a different colour as otherwise the green painted log cabin would be ‘lost’ in the garden and I took their advice. I used two different colours of Butinox No. 3 and the result is absolutely incredible. Many thanks once again. One hugely satisfied customer.

The delivery lorry arrived about eleven o’clock and the driver duly unloaded two very large packages. At eleven thirty my neighbour and I began to investigate these well protected packages.

Just after three o’clock that afternoon, two self satisfied men were enjoying a well deserved beverage whilst admiring the 4.5 by 3.5 meter cabin which was now completed up to roof purling level.

The construction of the cabin was so logical and easy, just like assembling ‘Lego blocks’ only heavier.

We absolutely love our Summer House – we can seat 16 people inside it, it stays warm long after the sun has gone down and it is particularly special as we run a B&B, so we can escape into it, invite all our friends to parties in it and now, we have installed electricity so can have lighting, heat and music as and when needed. It also provides a really big area to store all our garden furniture during the winter months.

We would absolutely recommend you to anyone considering buying one. Many thanks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is better: a carport or a garage?

It depends on your needs. A garage offers an enclosed, lockable space that provides both security and extra storage for tools, bicycles, or a motorbike. A carport, on the other hand, is open-sided with a roof, giving cost-effective shelter from rain, sun, and other weather conditions while still keeping your vehicle accessible. Palmako offers both options, allowing you to choose the solution that best fits your property and lifestyle.

Do I need planning permission for a carport or garage?

In many cases, Palmako garden garages and carports fall under permitted development, especially if they are under 2.5m in height and located more than 2m from the property boundary. However, if you are in a Conservation Area or National Park, or your building exceeds height restrictions, you may need planning permission. As rules vary across the UK, always check with your local planning authority before installation.

What materials are Palmako carports and garage buildings made from?

Palmako uses only the highest quality materials. Our garages are crafted from slow-grown Nordic spruce with precision-cut interlocking logs and sturdy, solid walls. Foundation beams are pressure-treated for durability, and models come with either a traditional wooden gate or a modern sectional garage door. Each package includes roof boards, windows, and doors, offering a secure and long-lasting outbuilding for your property.

Can I assemble a carport or garage myself?

Yes, Palmako carports and log garages are designed as DIY projects. Each kit arrives flat-packed with all necessary fixings and clear instructions. You’ll need at least two people, basic tools, and a firm, level concrete base or paving slab foundation. Many customers choose to build their garage or carport themselves, but if you prefer, Palmako also offers an optional installation service to have your building professionally erected.

What are the disadvantages of a carport?

While a carport provides excellent shelter from the elements, it does not offer the same level of security or enclosed storage space as a garage. Items left under a carport remain visible and more exposed to weather conditions. For customers who want added protection for vehicles and equipment, Palmako’s timber garages may be the better choice.

How long will a carport last?

Palmako carports are built from slow-grown Nordic spruce with pressure-treated foundation beams for durability. With proper timber treatment and maintenance every few years, they can last for decades, even in challenging UK weather conditions.

How long will delivery take?

Most Palmako garages and carports are delivered within 6 weeks, while items in the Express Delivery range can arrive in as little as 2–3 weeks (subject to order confirmation). Delivery is free to most of mainland UK, with a £150 surcharge for certain remote postcodes.

Can I customise my wooden garage or carport?

Yes. All Palmako carports and garages are designed for DIY construction. Each kit arrives flat-packed with everything included for assembly. With basic tools and at least two people, most customers successfully install their building on a level concrete base. For those who prefer, Palmako offers a professional installation service.

Are Palmako garages and carports pressure-treated?

The foundation beams are pressure-treated as standard to protect against damp and insects. The walls and logs are supplied untreated, unless you choose the optional factory dip treatment, which coats every surface, including notches and grooves,  before the timber is exposed to moisture. If you order untreated, it’s important to apply a suitable timber treatment shortly after construction and retreat every few years to ensure your garage or carport lasts for decades.

What can I store in a Palmako garage?

In addition to housing your car, a Palmako garage provides valuable extra storage space. Many customers use the extra room to safely store a lawn mower, gardening tools, or bicycles. The enclosed design with lockable doors keeps your items secure and protected from the elements.
