44mm Log Cabins

If you want a garden building that feels like a proper extension of your living space, rather than somewhere you simply put the lawnmower, the 44mm range gives you plenty to work with. Whether you picture a quiet morning with a coffee, a dedicated place to work or somewhere to gather at the weekend, these cabins give you the room to make better use of your garden.

There are plenty of options for making the space your own. A traditional cabin gives you a more classic garden feel, while modern pent roof designs, generous glazing and larger multi-room layouts offer a different way to arrange the space. Selected models also feature sliding or bi-fold doors and double glazing, bringing more light into the cabin and opening it up to the garden.

Palmako uses slow-grown Nordic spruce, selected for its strength and durability. Combined with 44mm wall construction, this creates a sturdy garden building that is well suited to the changing conditions of a UK garden, with improved natural insulation compared with thinner-walled cabins.

The range includes free mainland UK delivery, optional professional installation and a five-year structural guarantee. Choose from a wide selection of sizes, layouts and styles to find the log cabin that works for your garden

Testimonials

Just a brief note to say how delighted I am with the Melanie (9.6 sqm) Log Cabin I bought from you. Your service and price were superb and Greg and Craig came at 9am on Tuesday and worked right through until 8pm to build it.

They did an excellent job and did not stop all day. Greg advised that I should paint the door and windows a different colour as otherwise the green painted log cabin would be ‘lost’ in the garden and I took their advice. I used two different colours of Butinox No. 3 and the result is absolutely incredible. Many thanks once again. One hugely satisfied customer.

The delivery lorry arrived about eleven o’clock and the driver duly unloaded two very large packages. At eleven thirty my neighbour and I began to investigate these well protected packages.

Just after three o’clock that afternoon, two self satisfied men were enjoying a well deserved beverage whilst admiring the 4.5 by 3.5 meter cabin which was now completed up to roof purling level.

The construction of the cabin was so logical and easy, just like assembling ‘Lego blocks’ only heavier.

We absolutely love our Summer House – we can seat 16 people inside it, it stays warm long after the sun has gone down and it is particularly special as we run a B&B, so we can escape into it, invite all our friends to parties in it and now, we have installed electricity so can have lighting, heat and music as and when needed. It also provides a really big area to store all our garden furniture during the winter months.

We would absolutely recommend you to anyone considering buying one. Many thanks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install electricity and plumbing in my log cabin?

Yes, electricity and plumbing can be installed in a 44mm log cabin, making it suitable for use as a garden office, hobby room or other functional outdoor space.

Electrical work should be carried out by a qualified electrician, with suitable protection against moisture and the elements. Plumbing should also be installed by a qualified professional, with appropriate drainage and frost protection.

Palmako does not provide electrical installation services, so these arrangements must be made separately. Depending on your intended use, additional building regulations or planning requirements may apply.

Can I use a 44mm log cabin as a garden office or guest room?

Yes, a 44mm log cabin provides a versatile space for a home office, creative studio or garden room. The added thickness of the wall logs offers improved natural insulation, while models with double-glazed doors and windows allow plenty of natural light.

For regular year-round use, consider adding floor and roof insulation, suitable heating and ventilation to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.

If you plan to use your cabin as guest accommodation, check with your local planning authority before installation, as sleeping accommodation may require additional approvals.

Do your log cabins come with a roof covering?

Roof coverings are generally available as optional extras rather than included as standard. Our log cabin kits include roofboards, but you'll need to select a suitable external covering to protect the building from rain, wind and other weather conditions.

Choosing the right roof covering helps prevent water penetration and improves the durability of your cabin. Check the individual product details for compatible options or contact our team for advice before purchasing.

Is a 44mm log cabin warm?

A 44mm log cabin offers improved natural insulation compared to buildings with thinner wall logs. The solid timber walls help reduce heat transfer, while the interlocking tongue and groove construction forms a close-fitting structure that helps limit draughts.

However, wall thickness alone does not guarantee year-round warmth. For regular use during colder months, we recommend additional floor and roof insulation, double glazing and suitable heating.

Proper ventilation is equally important to help manage moisture and condensation throughout the seasons.

What is a good size for a 44mm log cabin?

The right size depends on how you intend to use your garden space and the furniture or equipment you need to accommodate.

  • 7–10 m²: Suitable for compact hobby rooms, relaxation areas or occasional use.
  • 10–15 m²: A practical choice for a garden office, creative studio or small garden room.
  • 15–25 m²: Provides more flexibility for larger workspaces, home gyms or multi-purpose use.
  • 25 m² and above: Suitable for spacious layouts, separate rooms or larger leisure areas.

Remember to consider internal dimensions, door placement and available garden space rather than choosing solely by external measurements.

How do I insulate a 44mm log cabin?

Additional insulation can be installed in the floor, roof and where necessary, the walls to improve warmth and comfort.

Floor and roof insulation are often the first priorities, particularly when creating a garden office or room intended for regular use during colder months. Double-glazed windows and doors can also help reduce heat loss.

If you opt for internal wall insulation, ensure the installation allows for natural timber movement and appropriate moisture control.

Planning your insulation before assembly can make installation easier and help you achieve a more comfortable year-round space.

What is the lifespan of a log cabin?

A well-maintained timber log cabin can last for several decades, depending on its installation, treatment and exposure to the elements.

Our cabins are manufactured from high-quality Nordic spruce, selected for its strength and durability. However, regular maintenance is essential to protect the wood from moisture, UV exposure and decay.

Apply a suitable timber preservative or opt for factory treatment, maintain the roof covering and check doors, windows and drainage periodically.

Correct installation on a stable, level foundation also helps protect the structure and extend its lifespan.

What is the difference between 44mm and thinner log cabins?

The main difference is the thickness of the solid timber walls. A 44mm log cabin provides a more substantial structure and improved natural insulation compared to thinner alternatives.

This added thickness makes 44mm cabins particularly suitable for garden offices, studios and leisure spaces where comfort and durability are important.

However, the best log thickness depends on your intended use, budget and insulation requirements. A thinner cabin may be sufficient for occasional summer use, while a 44mm model offers greater flexibility for more regular use.

Can I choose between traditional and modern log cabin designs?

Yes, our range includes traditional and contemporary styles to suit different gardens and personal preferences.

Traditional apex roof cabins offer classic rustic charm, while modern pent roof designs provide a clean, understated appearance. Selected models also feature alternative roof configurations and spacious glazed openings.

Consider the roof style, door placement, window configuration and available space when choosing a design that complements your garden.

What is the maximum size for a log cabin without planning permission in the UK?

There is no single maximum size that applies to every property. Planning permission depends on the cabin's height, location, intended use and the amount of garden space it occupies.

In England, many garden buildings fall under permitted development rights, provided they meet specific conditions. For example, a cabin positioned within two metres of a boundary must not exceed 2.5 metres in overall height.

Different rules apply in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and additional restrictions may apply to listed buildings or designated land.

Always check with your local planning authority before purchasing, particularly if you intend to use your cabin as sleeping accommodation.

Do I need to treat my 44mm log cabin?

Yes. Untreated timber needs a suitable protective finish to help prevent moisture damage, fungal growth and weathering.

You can apply your preferred wood preservative or exterior paint or opt for an available factory treatment to protect the timber before assembly.

Regular maintenance will help preserve the cabin's appearance, durability and structural condition. Always follow the treatment manufacturer's instructions and Palmako's maintenance recommendations.

How are Palmako 44mm log cabins constructed?

Our 44mm log cabins are constructed using precision-cut, interlocking wall logs made from slow-grown Nordic spruce.

The tongue and groove construction allows the logs to fit closely together, creating a stable timber structure with improved resistance to draughts and weather exposure.

Selected models feature double tongue and groove profiles, depending on their design and log thickness.

Each cabin is supplied as a flat-pack kit with pre-cut components and detailed assembly instructions. Roof and floorboards are included in many models, although specifications vary.

The cabin must be assembled on a firm, level foundation, with appropriate timber treatment applied to protect the structure against the elements.

Do you offer delivery and installation services?

Yes, we offer free mainland UK delivery on our 44mm log cabins, with estimated delivery times depending on the model and treatment selected. Untreated cabins typically arrive within 2–6 weeks, while factory-treated or painted options may require additional time.

If you'd prefer not to assemble your cabin yourself, professional installation is available for most models at an additional cost. Our installation team can take care of the construction, helping ensure your garden building is assembled correctly.

Installation is not included with standard delivery, so check the available options before purchasing.
