70mm Garden Log Cabins

Choosing the right wall thickness can make a noticeable difference to how a log cabin feels throughout the year. With 70mm walls, these cabins are designed to offer greater comfort throughout the changing seasons, helping to retain heat more effectively during colder months.

Palmako's 70mm log cabins are manufactured from slow-grown Nordic spruce. Growing in colder northern climates allows the timber to develop a denser grain, helping to create a stronger, more stable building that's better equipped to handle the changing weather conditions often experienced in the UK.

The range includes everything from garden offices and creative studios to holiday-style cabins and multi-room garden houses. Many models also feature precision-cut interlocking log construction for straightforward assembly, alongside double-glazed windows that help reduce heat loss and outside noise.

With more than 25 years of experience in timber construction and over 500,000 customers across Europe, Palmako combines practical design with trusted craftsmanship. Every cabin is backed by a 5-year warranty for added peace of mind. Explore the range below.

Testimonials

Just a brief note to say how delighted I am with the Melanie (9.6 sqm) Log Cabin I bought from you. Your service and price were superb and Greg and Craig came at 9am on Tuesday and worked right through until 8pm to build it.

They did an excellent job and did not stop all day. Greg advised that I should paint the door and windows a different colour as otherwise the green painted log cabin would be ‘lost’ in the garden and I took their advice. I used two different colours of Butinox No. 3 and the result is absolutely incredible. Many thanks once again. One hugely satisfied customer.

The delivery lorry arrived about eleven o’clock and the driver duly unloaded two very large packages. At eleven thirty my neighbour and I began to investigate these well protected packages.

Just after three o’clock that afternoon, two self satisfied men were enjoying a well deserved beverage whilst admiring the 4.5 by 3.5 meter cabin which was now completed up to roof purling level.

The construction of the cabin was so logical and easy, just like assembling ‘Lego blocks’ only heavier.

We absolutely love our Summer House – we can seat 16 people inside it, it stays warm long after the sun has gone down and it is particularly special as we run a B&B, so we can escape into it, invite all our friends to parties in it and now, we have installed electricity so can have lighting, heat and music as and when needed. It also provides a really big area to store all our garden furniture during the winter months.

We would absolutely recommend you to anyone considering buying one. Many thanks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a 44mm and a 70mm log cabin?

While a 44mm cabin can be ideal for seasonal use, a 70mm log cabin provides superior insulation, helping to retain heat more effectively during colder months and maintain a comfortable environment throughout the year.

The thicker walls also contribute to greater structural integrity and long-term stability, making 70mm cabins a popular choice for spaces that are used regularly. Combined with Palmako's slow-grown Nordic spruce construction, a 70mm cabin is better equipped to handle changing weather conditions in the UK climate.

Can a 70mm log cabin be used all year round?

Yes, a 70mm log cabin is specifically designed to provide greater comfort throughout the seasons.

The thicker timber walls offer excellent natural insulation, helping to keep the interior warmer during winter and cooler during summer.

For the best year-round performance, many customers choose models with double-glazed windows, which can further improve heat retention and help create a quieter indoor environment. Combined with Palmako's range of high-quality log cabins, these features help create a space that's comfortable to use throughout the year.

Do I still need insulation in a 70mm log cabin?

A 70mm wall thickness already provides a significant level of increased insulation compared to thinner log cabins. For many seasonal uses, the durable timber walls alone may provide a comfortable environment without additional upgrades.

However, if you plan to insulate the floor and the roof, it can help maximise comfort and heat retention throughout the seasons.

Can I build a 70mm log cabin myself?

Yes, many Palmako 70mm log cabins are designed for self-assembly and are supplied as complete kits with pre-cut components and detailed instructions. The precision-cut tongue-and-groove design helps each section fit together accurately, creating a straightforward building process.

Many customers compare the assembly process to building with large Lego-style blocks, as the groove logs are manufactured to fit securely together. For larger log cabins, or if you'd prefer not to undertake the build yourself, professional installation is available on most products at an additional cost.

How are Palmako 70mm log cabins delivered?

Palmako 70mm log cabins are delivered as complete flat-pack kits containing the timber components and assembly materials required for construction. All parts are carefully packed to help protect them during transport and storage before installation.

Palmako offers free UK mainland delivery, with crane offloading included to assist with unloading larger cabins safely and efficiently. If you're not ready to receive your cabin immediately, you can also request a future delivery date during checkout, allowing additional time to prepare your site before your building arrives.

What can I use a 70mm log cabin for?

A 70mm log cabin is a versatile building that can be adapted to a wide range of uses. Thanks to its improved insulation and robust construction, it can be used as a home office, guest room, creative studio, hobby room or relaxing garden retreat throughout much of the year.

Palmako's 70mm range includes everything from compact garden rooms to larger holiday-style cabins and multi-room garden houses. Whether you're creating a place to work, relax or accommodate guests, the thicker wall construction helps provide a more comfortable and practical environment.

Do 70mm log cabins require less maintenance?

While all timber buildings benefit from regular maintenance, a well-built 70mm log cabin is designed for long-term durability. The thicker wall logs provide greater resistance to movement and weather exposure, helping to maintain the building's performance over time.

To keep your cabin in excellent condition, it's important to apply appropriate wood treatments, inspect the roof covering periodically and address any signs of wear before they develop into larger issues. With proper care, a Palmako 70mm log cabin can remain an attractive and functional outdoor space for many years.

Why is Nordic spruce used for Palmako's 70mm log cabins?

Nordic spruce is a popular timber for log cabins because it grows slowly in colder climates, creating a denser wood with excellent natural strength. This helps create a sturdy building that's well-suited to the changing weather conditions often experienced in the UK.

Another advantage is its natural insulating properties, which can help make a cabin more comfortable throughout the year. Nordic spruce also has an attractive grain and traditional appearance, giving log cabins the warm, rustic feel many homeowners look for in a garden building.

Do I need planning permission for a 70mm log cabin?

In many cases, a 70mm log cabin can be installed under permitted development rights, meaning planning permission may not be required. However, this depends on factors such as the size and height of the building, its location within your property and how you intend to use it.

Additional rules may apply if the cabin will be used as accommodation, is located close to a boundary, or is being installed on designated land. As planning requirements can vary throughout the UK, it's always best to check with your local planning authority before starting your project.

Does Palmako offer other types of garden buildings?

Yes, Palmako offers much more than just 70mm log cabins. The range includes garden rooms, summer houses, garages, gazebos and larger multi-room garden houses, giving homeowners plenty of options to suit different lifestyles and outdoor spaces.

Whether you're creating a home office, a guest retreat, a hobby space or somewhere to relax with family and friends, Palmako offers a variety of timber buildings designed for different needs, budgets and garden sizes.
