Testimonials

Just a brief note to say how delighted I am with the Melanie (9.6 sqm) Log Cabin I bought from you. Your service and price were superb and Greg and Craig came at 9am on Tuesday and worked right through until 8pm to build it.

They did an excellent job and did not stop all day. Greg advised that I should paint the door and windows a different colour as otherwise the green painted log cabin would be ‘lost’ in the garden and I took their advice. I used two different colours of Butinox No. 3 and the result is absolutely incredible. Many thanks once again. One hugely satisfied customer.

The delivery lorry arrived about eleven o’clock and the driver duly unloaded two very large packages. At eleven thirty my neighbour and I began to investigate these well protected packages.

Just after three o’clock that afternoon, two self satisfied men were enjoying a well deserved beverage whilst admiring the 4.5 by 3.5 meter cabin which was now completed up to roof purling level.

The construction of the cabin was so logical and easy, just like assembling ‘Lego blocks’ only heavier.

We absolutely love our Summer House – we can seat 16 people inside it, it stays warm long after the sun has gone down and it is particularly special as we run a B&B, so we can escape into it, invite all our friends to parties in it and now, we have installed electricity so can have lighting, heat and music as and when needed. It also provides a really big area to store all our garden furniture during the winter months.

We would absolutely recommend you to anyone considering buying one. Many thanks.

How long does delivery take, and do you offer installation services?

Delivery times depend on the model you choose, but the good news is that most garden buildings arrive within 6 weeks, so you don’t have to wait long to start enjoying your new space.

Do your garden buildings come with insulation?

Our garden buildings don’t come pre-insulated. However, our buildings are designed so that insulation can be added after purchase.

You can choose to insulate the floor, roof, and walls to create an insulated garden room that stays warm in winter and cool in summer.

Are your DIY garden room kits easy to assemble?

Yes! Our kits are designed for straightforward assembly, even if you don’t have prior construction experience. Each kit comes with clear step-by-step instructions, pre-cut materials, and all the necessary hardware.

Do garden rooms add value to a property?

Yes! Garden rooms add both functional and financial value to your home. They create extra space for work, relaxation, or hobbies while also increasing property appeal. A well-designed, high-quality garden room can be a great investment if you ever decide to sell your home.

What is the average cost of a garden room?

The cost of a garden room varies depending on size, wall thickness, glazing and optional upgrades. In the UK, Palmako garden rooms typically range from a few thousand pounds for compact models to higher prices for larger, fully glazed designs. Optional extras such as double glazing, floor kits or installation services can increase the overall cost.

Is it cheaper to buy or build a garden room?

Buying a prefabricated garden room kit is generally more cost-effective than building one from scratch. Our DIY prefab kits reduce design, material waste and labour costs, while still offering high-quality timber construction and flexible layouts.

Do I need planning permission for a garden room?

In most cases, a garden room does not require planning permission, as modern designs usually fall under permitted development rights (Class E). This applies as long as certain limits and conditions are met, including height, size, placement and use. For example, garden rooms must not be used for living or sleeping accommodation and should not cover more than 50% of the garden area.

Additional restrictions may apply if your property is located in a conservation area, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or a listed building, in which case a garden room may require planning permission.

As rules can vary by location and property type, we recommend checking with your local planning authority before purchasing.

Do garden rooms require Building Regulations approval in the UK?

In many cases, Building Regulations approval is not required for a garden room, provided it is a detached outbuilding, contains no sleeping accommodation, and meets certain size and placement criteria. Buildings with a floor area of up to 15 m² are usually exempt. Garden rooms between 15 m² and 30 m² may also be exempt if they are positioned at least one metre from any boundary or constructed substantially of non-combustible materials.

Building Regulations may apply in specific situations, such as if the structure is intended for permanent living, includes sleeping accommodation, or is attached to the main house. As requirements can vary, we recommend checking with your local authority

Do garden rooms require foundations?

Yes. A solid, level base is essential for correct installation and long-term performance. Common foundation options include concrete slabs, paving slabs or screw foundations. On selected models, we also offer a foundation kit as an optional extra, designed to suit the specific size and structure of the garden room. The most important requirement is that the base is flat, stable and suitable for the weight and dimensions of the building.

How long do Palmako garden rooms last?

With correct installation, regular timber treatment and ongoing maintenance, a high-quality timber garden room can last for many decades. Our garden rooms are manufactured from slow-grown Nordic spruce and designed for long-term outdoor use, but proper care is essential to protect the timber from weather exposure.

What makes a garden room suitable for year-round use?

Garden rooms are built to create a functional space that can be used comfortably throughout the year when set up correctly. Models with double glazing help improve heat retention, while adding insulation and heating allows the space to maintain year-round comfort. This makes a garden room ideal as a private space for work, hobbies or family use, separate from the main house, while still providing a comfortable environment in all seasons.

How do Palmako garden rooms balance design, durability and customisation?

Palmako garden rooms are built using high-quality materials and a considered design process that prioritises strength, appearance and long-term performance. With a wide range of layouts, glazing styles and customisation options, it’s easier to create a perfect fit for your exact needs. Our team can also offer advice during the selection process, helping you choose a garden room that delivers the best value while ensuring durability, functionality and contemporary design.
