Double Garages

Palmako’s double garages provide a practical and durable solution for securely housing two vehicles, or can be used as storage space and even as a workshop. Built from slow-grown Nordic spruce, each structure is precision-manufactured for strength, stability and long-term outdoor performance. Wall thicknesses of 44 mm offer increased structural rigidity and allow for future insulation if required.

With over 20 years of manufacturing experience and more than half a million timber buildings produced, Palmako is a trusted European supplier of high-quality log structures. Each double garage is supplied as a complete kit with pre-cut components, fixings and detailed assembly instructions. Professional installation services are available on request.

The range includes different sizes, roof styles and door configurations, including traditional timber double doors or optional up-and-over doors, to suit different access and property layouts. Thoughtful design features such as storm anchoring options, quality-graded timber and robust roof construction ensure reliability in varied weather conditions.

Most models include free mainland UK delivery and are supported by a 5-year structural component warranty.

Testimonials

Just a brief note to say how delighted I am with the Melanie (9.6 sqm) Log Cabin I bought from you. Your service and price were superb and Greg and Craig came at 9am on Tuesday and worked right through until 8pm to build it.

They did an excellent job and did not stop all day. Greg advised that I should paint the door and windows a different colour as otherwise the green painted log cabin would be ‘lost’ in the garden and I took their advice. I used two different colours of Butinox No. 3 and the result is absolutely incredible. Many thanks once again. One hugely satisfied customer.

The delivery lorry arrived about eleven o’clock and the driver duly unloaded two very large packages. At eleven thirty my neighbour and I began to investigate these well protected packages.

Just after three o’clock that afternoon, two self satisfied men were enjoying a well deserved beverage whilst admiring the 4.5 by 3.5 meter cabin which was now completed up to roof purling level.

The construction of the cabin was so logical and easy, just like assembling ‘Lego blocks’ only heavier.

We absolutely love our Summer House – we can seat 16 people inside it, it stays warm long after the sun has gone down and it is particularly special as we run a B&B, so we can escape into it, invite all our friends to parties in it and now, we have installed electricity so can have lighting, heat and music as and when needed. It also provides a really big area to store all our garden furniture during the winter months.

We would absolutely recommend you to anyone considering buying one. Many thanks.

Frequently Asked Questions - Double Wooden Garages

Is it cheaper to build a garage from scratch or buy a timber garage kit?

For most homeowners, buying a timber log garage kit is more cost-effective than commissioning a fully custom build. Timber kits include pre-cut components, fixings and instructions, which significantly reduce labour and construction costs. They also help control budgets by giving a clear upfront product price.

What foundation is best for a timber log garage?

A solid, level concrete base is the most common choice for timber log garages, although paving slabs, screw foundations and strip foundations are also suitable. The key requirement is that the base is flat, stable and properly supported to prevent movement or long-term settling.

How long do timber log garages last?

With correct installation, treatment and ongoing maintenance, Palmako timber log garages can last for several decades. The structures are built from high-quality Nordic spruce and are designed for long-term outdoor use. Regular wood treatment and inspections help significantly extend their lifespan.

What is the average cost of a double garage in the UK?

The average cost of a timber double garage kit in the UK generally starts from around £7,000–£15,000, depending on size, wall thickness, roof type and door configuration.

Do I need planning permission for a wooden double garage in the UK?

In the UK, planning permission for a wooden double garage depends on its location, size and height. In many cases, garages placed to the rear or side of a property may fall under permitted development, but larger structures like double garages often exceed these limits.

If the building is within 2 metres of a boundary, it usually must not exceed 2.5 metres in height. Elsewhere, apex roof buildings can reach up to 4 metres and other roof types up to 3 metres, with eaves no higher than 2.5 metres. Rules vary across England, Scotland and Wales, and planning permission may always be required in conservation areas or designated land. Always check with your local planning authority.

Can this double garage be used as a workshop or just for parking?

Yes. While double garages are primarily designed for storing two cars, many models offer generous internal space that can also be used as a storage room or as a workshop space, depending on how you choose to configure the interior.

How weather-resistant are timber log garages?

Palmako timber log garages are built with thick interlocking wall logs, wind-tight joints, and sturdy roof construction  to enhance overall structural integrity. Many models also include impregnated foundation beams and storm anchoring options to improve performance in wet, windy and exposed conditions.

Are Palmako double garages insulated as standard?

The garage does not come fully insulated as standard, but the 44 mm log construction and double-glazed doors and windows already provide good thermal performance. The structure is also insulation-ready, allowing you to add further insulation if you plan to use it year-round.

What type of garage doors are included, and can they be changed?

The standard model includes large timber double doors (225 × 193 cm) with adjustable hinges and lockable handles. However, you also have the option to choose an up-and-over door with timber cladding for a different access style.

How difficult is it to assemble the garage?

Garages are supplied as complete kits with pre-cut components, fixings and assembly instructions. Customers with good DIY skills often install them themselves, while professional installation services are also available.

What does the 5-year warranty for garages cover?

Palmako double garages come with a 5-year structural component warranty covering defects in materials or manufacturing. The warranty does not cover natural timber characteristics, incorrect installation, lack of treatment or damage caused by extreme weather.
